Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MenB-4C vaccine (commercially known as Bexsero) is a multicomponent, recombinant, adsorbed vaccine designed to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B. Developed originally by Novartis and subsequently acquired by GSK, the vaccine contains four major antigenic components: three recombinant proteins (Neisserial adhesin A [NadA], Neisserial heparin-binding antigen [NHBA], and factor H-binding protein [fHbp] variant 1.1) and outer membrane vesicles (OMV) from the N. meningitidis strain NZ98/254 containing the PorA P1.4 outer membrane protein. These antigens stimulate the production of bactericidal antibodies that facilitate complement-mediated killing of the bacteria. The vaccine is approved for individuals aged 10 through 25 years in the United States, and from 2 months of age in other regions, and has also demonstrated cross-protective effectiveness against Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
