Overview

Meningococcal B recombinant vaccine is a protein-based biologic vaccine used for active immunization to prevent invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup B, a primary cause of bacterial meningitis and septicemia. The vaccine is available in two distinct formulations: **Bexsero** (MenB-4C), developed by GSK, and **Trumenba** (MenB-FHbp), developed by Pfizer. Bexsero is a multicomponent vaccine containing three recombinant proteins—neisserial adhesin A (NadA), neisserial heparin-binding antigen (NHBA), and factor H-binding protein (fHbp)—along with outer membrane vesicles (OMV) containing the PorA protein. Trumenba consists of two recombinant lipidated fHbp variants from subfamilies A and B. Both vaccines work by stimulating the production of bactericidal antibodies that target surface proteins of the bacteria, thereby facilitating immune-mediated killing. They are typically administered via intramuscular injection and are approved for use in individuals aged 10 through 25 years, as well as those at increased risk for meningococcal disease.
