Overview

Trumenba (meningococcal group B vaccine [recombinant, adsorbed]) is a sterile suspension for intramuscular injection developed by Pfizer. It is a recombinant, bivalent protein subunit vaccine consisting of two lipidated recombinant factor H binding protein (fHBP) variants from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup B. One variant is from fHBP subfamily A and the other from subfamily B. fHBP is a surface-exposed lipoprotein that binds human factor H, allowing the bacteria to evade the host's complement-mediated killing. By targeting fHBP, the vaccine induces bactericidal antibodies that provide protection against invasive meningococcal disease caused by serogroup B strains. It was granted FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation in March 2014 and is approved for use in individuals aged 10 through 25 years.
