meningococcal group C and haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine

The Chiron MenC-Hib conjugate vaccine is an investigational combination vaccine developed by Chiron (later acquired by Novartis) to prevent infections caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup C and *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib). The vaccine is a bivalent conjugate product that combines a meningococcal serogroup C oligosaccharide conjugate (based on the Menjugate platform) and a Hib polysaccharide conjugate (derived from VaxemHib), both using CRM197 (a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin) as the carrier protein. It works by eliciting functional, bactericidal antibody responses against the capsular polysaccharides of both pathogens. The vaccine was evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials in healthy adults to assess its safety and immunogenicity compared to the separate administration of its individual components. It remained in the research stage and did not proceed to commercialization as a standalone product.
