Overview

Meningococcal group C polysaccharide conjugate vaccines are active immunizing agents used to prevent invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup C. These vaccines consist of purified capsular polysaccharides from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup C, chemically linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein such as CRM197 or tetanus toxoid. The conjugation enhances the immune response, especially in young children, by inducing T-cell dependent immunity and immunological memory. The primary indication is the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease (including meningitis and septicemia) due to serogroup C. These vaccines have been widely used in national immunization programs and have significantly reduced the incidence of serogroup C disease where implemented[5][8].
