Overview

Meningococcal groups A, C, W-135, and Y conjugate vaccine is an active immunizing agent used to prevent invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135 (also called W), and Y. The vaccine contains capsular polysaccharides from these four serogroups that are chemically linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein such as diphtheria toxoid or tetanus toxoid. This conjugation enhances the immune response compared to plain polysaccharide vaccines by promoting T-cell dependent immunity and robust antibody production. Upon administration via intramuscular injection (or subcutaneous in some cases), the body produces bactericidal antibodies directed against the capsular polysaccharides of these *Neisseria* strains[1][5][7]. The primary indication is prevention of invasive meningococcal disease in children and adults.
