Overview

Meningococcal groups A, C, W, and Y conjugate vaccine is a quadrivalent biologic vaccine indicated for active immunization to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. The vaccine consists of purified capsular polysaccharides from each of the four serogroups, which are chemically conjugated to a carrier protein—typically either a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin (CRM197), tetanus toxoid (TT), or diphtheria toxoid (DT). This conjugation process transforms the polysaccharides from T-cell independent antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which significantly improves immunogenicity in infants and young children and promotes the development of immunological memory. Major commercial formulations include Menveo (GSK), MenQuadfi (Sanofi), and Nimenrix (Pfizer). It is administered via intramuscular injection and is a standard component of adolescent immunization schedules and for individuals at high risk of exposure.
