Overview

Meningococcal groups A and C conjugate vaccine (Sanofi) is a bivalent vaccine developed to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A and C. The vaccine consists of purified capsular polysaccharides from these two serogroups, each covalently conjugated to a carrier protein, typically tetanus toxoid. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which significantly enhances immunogenicity and induces immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children. It is used in regions where serogroups A and C are prevalent and has been utilized as an active control in clinical trials evaluating broader quadrivalent vaccines like MenQuadfi.
