Overview
The drug 'meningococcal polysaccharide a+c + sodium chloride + typhoid vi polysaccharide' is a combination of two distinct polysaccharide vaccines: a bivalent Meningococcal Polysaccharide (Groups A and C) vaccine and a Typhoid Vi Polysaccharide vaccine (Typhim Vi). Developed by Sanofi Pasteur, this combination was specifically utilized as an active control/comparator arm in Phase 2 clinical trials evaluating the tetravalent dengue vaccine (CYD-TDV) in Vietnam. The use of these vaccines as a control provided a health benefit to the control group (protection against meningococcal disease and typhoid fever) while maintaining the observer-blind nature of the study. The meningococcal component targets the capsular polysaccharides of Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A and C, while the typhoid component targets the Vi capsular polysaccharide of Salmonella typhi. Sodium chloride is included as an excipient for tonicity.
