Overview

This is a combination of two vaccines: a quadrivalent meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine conjugated to diphtheria or tetanus toxoid (such as Menactra), plus a combined vaccine containing diphtheria and tetanus toxoids with acellular pertussis components (such as Infanrix or Pediacel). The meningococcal component induces immunity against *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 by stimulating antibody production through presentation of capsular polysaccharides covalently linked to a carrier protein (diphtheria or tetanus toxoid)[1][3][4]. The DTaP component provides protection against *Corynebacterium diphtheriae* (diphtheria), *Clostridium tetani* (tetanus), and *Bordetella pertussis* (pertussis/whooping cough) by inducing antibodies against their respective toxins[8]. These vaccines are used for active immunization in children to prevent invasive diseases caused by these pathogens. They are often co-administered in pediatric vaccination schedules[8].
