Overview
Mencevax ACW (also known as Mencevax ACW135) is a trivalent meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine developed by GSK. It is designed to provide active immunization against Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, and W-135, which are major causes of epidemic meningitis, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. The vaccine consists of purified capsular polysaccharides from the three targeted serogroups. Upon administration, it induces the production of serum bactericidal antibodies (SBA) that provide protection against invasive meningococcal disease. It was licensed in 2003 for use in outbreak control and has been evaluated in clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in children and adults.
