Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine (groups A, C) is a bivalent vaccine developed by Hualan Biological Vaccine Co., Ltd. for the prevention of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A and C. The vaccine is composed of purified capsular polysaccharides extracted from cultures of these two serogroups. Upon administration, it triggers a T-cell independent immune response, leading to the production of serogroup-specific bactericidal antibodies that provide active immunity against invasive meningococcal disease. Polysaccharide vaccines are primarily indicated for children over two years of age, adolescents, and adults, as they typically exhibit limited immunogenicity in infants. This vaccine is a critical tool in public health strategies for controlling meningococcal outbreaks in regions where serogroups A and C are prevalent.
