meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine group C

Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine group C is a monovalent, plain polysaccharide vaccine used for active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup C. The vaccine consists of purified capsular polysaccharides extracted from the bacteria. As a plain polysaccharide vaccine, it primarily induces a T-cell independent immune response, which is generally less effective in children under two years of age and does not typically result in long-term immunological memory or herd immunity. It has been available since the 1970s and is administered subcutaneously. While it remains a tool for outbreak control and protection for travelers to high-risk areas, it has largely been superseded in many national immunization programs by meningococcal conjugate vaccines, which provide superior protection in infants and more durable immunity.
