Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine group Y refers to the purified capsular polysaccharide antigen extracted from Neisseria meningitidis serogroup Y. This polysaccharide acts as an immunogen, stimulating the human immune system to produce specific antibodies against Neisseria meningitidis serogroup Y. It is a key component in various meningococcal vaccines, particularly quadrivalent (MenACWY) and pentavalent (MenABCWY) conjugate vaccines, which combine polysaccharides from multiple serogroups (A, C, W, Y, and sometimes B) with a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity and provide broader protection against invasive meningococcal disease, including meningitis and septicemia. These vaccines are designed to prevent infections caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup Y.
