Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine groups A + C + Y + W-135** is a tetravalent vaccine consisting of purified capsular polysaccharides from four *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups (A, C, Y, W-135)[1][2][5]. It is designed to induce active immunity against invasive meningococcal disease by stimulating the production of protective antibodies (IgG, IgM, IgA)[2][5]. The capsular polysaccharides, derived from each serogroup, are purified and formulated in a lyophilized form, stabilized with lactose, and administered intramuscularly after reconstitution[1]. The vaccine may be unconjugated (plain polysaccharide vaccine) or conjugated to carrier proteins (diphtheria toxoid, CRM197, or tetanus toxoid) to improve immunogenicity, durability of immunity, and effectiveness in young children[2][4][5]. It is indicated for the prevention of meningococcal disease in individuals at risk, including those in endemic regions, college students, military recruits, and travelers[2][4].
