Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination vaccine composed of purified capsular polysaccharides from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C. The vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against the bacterial polysaccharide capsules, providing immunity to invasive meningococcal disease caused by serogroups A and C. Unlike conjugate vaccines, pure polysaccharide vaccines elicit a T cell-independent immune response, resulting in short-lived antibody titers and no immunological memory, particularly in young children. Typical indications are rapid protection in high-risk populations, outbreak response, and use where conjugate vaccines are unavailable or inappropriate. The vaccine is not effective against other meningococcal serogroups and does not induce herd immunity[4].
