Meningococcal serogroup C conjugate vaccine is a glycoconjugate vaccine used for active immunization to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup C. The vaccine consists of the capsular polysaccharide of serogroup C chemically linked to a carrier protein, such as CRM197 (a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin) or tetanus toxoid (TT). This conjugation process is critical as it converts the polysaccharide from a T-cell independent to a T-cell dependent antigen, enabling an effective immune response and the induction of long-term immunological memory in infants and young children. The University of Oxford has been a key institution in evaluating optimized dosing schedules and the impact of injection sites on the immunogenicity of these vaccines through clinical trials like the MALTA study.
