Menomune

Menomune is a quadrivalent meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine (MPSV4) developed by Sanofi Pasteur. It is designed to provide active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135. Unlike conjugate vaccines, Menomune consists of purified capsular polysaccharides from these four serogroups. It induces a T-cell independent immune response, which primarily stimulates B cells to produce bactericidal antibodies. While effective in adults and children aged 2 years and older, it typically provides shorter-term immunity and lacks the robust immunological memory associated with conjugate vaccines. Sanofi Pasteur discontinued the production of Menomune in the United States in 2017, as it was largely superseded by meningococcal conjugate vaccines like Menactra.
