Overview

Menotropin is a gonadotropin medication consisting of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) in a 1:1 ratio, typically extracted from the urine of postmenopausal women. It is a biologic agent used primarily in fertility treatments to induce ovulation and stimulate the development of multiple follicles in the ovaries. In the Cairo University clinical trial (NCT02194335), menotropin (specifically the brand Merional) is being evaluated in a Phase 3 study for its efficacy in stimulated intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles compared to unstimulated cycles and timed intercourse for women suffering from subfertility associated with endometriosis.
