hMG + GnRH antagonist is a combination drug intervention used for controlled ovarian stimulation in women undergoing assisted reproductive techniques, such as intrauterine insemination (IUI). The combination consists of highly purified human menotropin (hMG-HP), marketed by Ferring Pharmaceuticals as Menopur, and a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist. Menotropin provides both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity to stimulate the growth and maturation of multiple ovarian follicles. The GnRH antagonist component acts by competitively binding to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, which rapidly suppresses the secretion of endogenous gonadotropins and prevents premature LH surges that could otherwise trigger untimely ovulation. This protocol is designed to improve clinical pregnancy rates by optimizing the timing of ovulation induction.
