Overview

Menotropins is a purified combination of human follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), both extracted from the urine of postmenopausal women. It is used as a fertility medication to stimulate ovarian follicular growth and development in women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). The drug acts by binding to the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor and luteinizing hormone receptor on ovarian cells. FSH promotes recruitment and growth of ovarian follicles during early folliculogenesis while LH supports steroidogenesis and maturation of pre-ovulatory follicles. Menotropins are administered via subcutaneous or intramuscular injection[2][3][7].
