Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mentha piperita (peppermint) is a natural phytotherapeutic agent widely used for its antispasmodic, carminative, and choleretic properties. Developed and marketed in Brazil by Hebron Nutrition under the brand name Endorus, it is indicated for the symptomatic relief of gastrointestinal spasms, flatulence, and abdominal colic, as well as acting as an expectorant. Its therapeutic efficacy is primarily driven by volatile essential oils, particularly menthol, which exerts a direct spasmolytic effect on gastrointestinal smooth muscle by modulating calcium channels, thereby reducing muscle tone and relieving pain. Additionally, Hebron markets a pediatric homeopathic combination under the same brand name (Endorus Cólicas Pediátrico) containing Mentha piperita alongside Matricaria chamomilla, Colocynthis, and Magnesia phosphorica to treat infant colic.
