Overview
Menthyl salicylate is an ester of menthol and salicylic acid. It is used topically to treat minor aches and pains of the muscles and joints, such as those caused by arthritis, backache, and sprains. As a topical analgesic, it works by creating cooling and warming sensations on the skin that distract from deeper muscle and joint pain. Similar to methyl salicylate, it likely acts as a counter-irritant and may have anti-inflammatory properties.
