Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mentor Purified Toxin (PurTox) is a purified formulation of botulinum toxin type A developed by Mentor Worldwide. It is a biologic neurotoxin that acts as an inhibitor of synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25), thereby blocking the release of acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions. This results in temporary muscle paralysis or relaxation and is used therapeutically for conditions involving muscle overactivity such as cervical dystonia and cosmetically for facial lines. The product was evaluated in clinical trials for indications including cervical dystonia and glabellar lines but did not reach market approval[2][3][4].
