Overview

Mepartricin is a semi-synthetic polyene macrolide antibiotic and antifungal agent, structurally a methyl ester of partricin. It is primarily used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), chronic nonbacterial prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), vaginal candidiasis, and trichomoniasis. Mepartricin acts as an estrogen reabsorption inhibitor in the gut, increasing fecal excretion of estrogens and reducing their levels in the prostate. This mechanism underlies its efficacy in BPH and CPPS by suppressing estrogen-induced prostatic growth and inflammation. Additionally, it exhibits antifungal and antiprotozoal activity through disruption of cell membrane integrity via binding to ergosterol and other sterols[1][3][5][6][8].
