mepifiline

**Mepifiline** is the 1:1 salt of the first-generation antihistamine mepyramine and acefylline, also called theophylline-7-acetic acid. It was developed as an orally administered treatment for respiratory disease, combining histamine H1-receptor antagonism from the mepyramine moiety with xanthine-derived bronchodilator activity. A randomized, double-blind study evaluated oral mepyramine-theophylline-acetate in children aged 2 to 6 years with mild-to-moderate asthmatic crisis; the treated group used less rescue salbutamol than the placebo group.
