Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mepilex Ag is an antimicrobial silver-impregnated foam dressing designed for the management of acute and chronic wounds with light to moderate exudate, such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and partial-thickness burns. Developed by Mölnlycke Health Care, the dressing utilizes Safetac technology—a soft silicone adhesive layer that minimizes pain and tissue trauma during dressing changes. It contains silver sulfate, which releases silver ions (Ag+) in the presence of wound moisture to provide rapid and sustained antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant strains like MRSA. In clinical trial contexts, such as those sponsored by Vomaris Innovations, Mepilex Ag is frequently utilized as a standard-of-care comparator to evaluate the efficacy of novel wound healing technologies like bioelectric dressings.
