mepiprazole

Mepiprazole is an anxiolytic and minor tranquilizer of the phenylpiperazine class, structurally a pyrazolyl-alkyl-piperazine derivative. It is marketed in Spain under the brand name Psigodal for the treatment of anxiety neuroses and has also been studied for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Mepiprazole acts primarily as a serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor (SARI), functioning as an antagonist at 5‑HT2A and α1‑adrenergic receptors, with partial agonist activity at 5‑HT2C receptors. It inhibits the reuptake and induces release of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine to varying extents. Like other phenylpiperazines such as trazodone or nefazodone, it produces m-chlorophenylpiperazine (mCPP) as an active metabolite[1][2][3][4][6].
