meplazumab

Meplazumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets CD147, a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on host cells. CD147 acts as a receptor for the spike protein of viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, facilitating viral entry into cells. By binding to CD147, meplazumab competitively blocks the interaction between the viral spike protein and this receptor, thereby inhibiting viral entry and infection. Meplazumab has been primarily investigated as an add-on therapy for COVID-19 pneumonia and severe COVID-19 cases. Clinical studies have shown that it may reduce mortality rates and improve clinical outcomes in patients with severe COVID-19, with a favorable safety profile[1][5][6][8].
