Meprednisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid and a derivative of prednisolone. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby modulating gene expression to suppress the immune response and reduce inflammation. Meprednisone is used primarily for conditions requiring systemic corticosteroid therapy such as autoimmune diseases, allergic reactions, and inflammatory disorders. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines and suppression of leukocyte infiltration at sites of inflammation. Meprednisone is structurally related to methylprednisolone but differs by its methylation pattern. Developed by Schering AG and manufactured by Bayer.
