Meramirt

Meramirt is a sterile ophthalmic solution and class IIa medical device formulated as eye drops containing hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose 0.3%) and inositol (0.1) for the hydration and lubrication of the ocular surface in patients with ocular disorders such as dry eye disease related to environmental, visual, and mechanical stress, including asthenopia and accommodative effort.[1][2][6] Hypromellose acts as a tear substitute by thickening and stabilizing the tear film on the corneal surface, forming a transparent, viscoelastic, protective layer that improves ocular lubrication and comfort, while inositol serves primarily as an antioxidant osmolyte that may counteract free-radical–mediated oxidative stress and support metabolic processes in ocular muscles involved in accommodation.[1][2][6] The product is marketed as a non-pharmacological medical device rather than a systemic pharmaceutical, is instilled topically as 1–2 drops in the conjunctival sac several times daily, and can be used by contact lens wearers to alleviate symptoms of dry eye and visual fatigue.[1][2][4]
