Mercuric amidochloride

Mercuric amidochloride is an inorganic compound with the formula Hg(NH₂)Cl. It is a white crystalline solid that was historically used as a topical antiseptic and disinfectant, particularly in creams for the treatment of psoriasis and as an anti-infective agent in some skin-lightening formulations. The compound arises from the reaction of ammonia and mercuric chloride, forming a zig-zag 1-dimensional polymer structure with chloride counterions. Mercuric amidochloride is highly toxic by inhalation, ingestion, or dermal absorption and can cause severe health effects including dermatitis, mucous membrane corrosion, or death. Due to its toxicity and environmental hazards associated with mercury compounds, it is no longer widely used in medicine[1][3][5][7].
