Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mericlob-F is a topical combination dermatological product developed by Meritor Pharmaceutical. It contains clobetasol propionate (0.05% w/w), a very potent corticosteroid, and fusidic acid (2% w/w), a narrow-spectrum antibiotic. The product is designed to treat inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema and dermatitis, when complicated by secondary bacterial infections (impetiginized dermatoses). Clobetasol propionate acts as a potent glucocorticoid receptor agonist, providing anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators. Fusidic acid provides antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through its interaction with bacterial elongation factor G (EF-G), primarily targeting Gram-positive bacteria like *Staphylococcus aureus*.
