merimepodib + remdesivir

**merimepodib + remdesivir** is a combination investigational therapy studied for the treatment of advanced COVID-19. Merimepodib (VX-497) is a small molecule inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), thereby blocking guanosine nucleotide synthesis, which is critical for viral RNA production. Remdesivir is a nucleotide analog prodrug that inhibits the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), thus interfering directly with viral replication. The rationale of the combination is to simultaneously inhibit viral replication by targeting both a host enzyme required for nucleotide synthesis (IMPDH, targeted by merimepodib) and the viral polymerase (targeted by remdesivir).
