Overview

Adducarb TZ is a fixed-dose combination antibacterial agent developed by ADDUCO RBS, consisting of the carbapenem antibiotic **meropenem** and the beta-lactamase inhibitor **tazobactam**. Meropenem exerts its bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls. Tazobactam serves to broaden the clinical efficacy of meropenem by irreversibly inhibiting various beta-lactamases, particularly those produced by Gram-negative bacteria that confer resistance to carbapenems. The 1.5g injectable formulation (typically 1g meropenem and 0.5g tazobactam) is used to treat serious systemic infections, including complicated intra-abdominal infections and hospital-acquired pneumonia, where resistance to carbapenem monotherapy is suspected.
