Overview
MENEM-TZ is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic containing meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem, and tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Developed by United Biotech, it is approved in India for the treatment of severe bacterial infections, including complicated urinary tract infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, severe pneumonia, and skin and soft tissue infections. Meropenem exerts bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Tazobactam protects meropenem from degradation by blocking beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby restoring and extending the antibacterial spectrum of meropenem against beta-lactamase-producing pathogens.
