Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Merotreat is a brand name for meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic developed and marketed by Treatwell Pharma. As a small molecule administered via intravenous injection, it is used to treat a variety of serious bacterial infections, including meningitis, pneumonia, sepsis, and complicated skin and skin structure infections. Meropenem works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through high-affinity binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. It is notably resistant to many beta-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*.
