Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mersina is a proprietary Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation developed for the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It is specifically indicated for patients who have experienced secondary failure with conventional oral hypoglycemic agents. The formulation consists of a complex blend of traditional medicinal plants, including *Gymnema sylvestre* (Gudmar), *Pterocarpus marsupium* (Bijasar), *Momordica charantia* (Karela), and *Eugenia jambolana* (Jamun), which are recognized in Ayurvedic medicine for their hypoglycemic and insulin-sensitizing properties. Mersina is believed to lower blood glucose levels through multiple mechanisms, such as stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, improving peripheral glucose utilization, and inhibiting intestinal glucose absorption. It has been evaluated in clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy as an adjunct or alternative therapy in diabetic patients.
