Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mertiatide (specifically as technetium Tc 99m mertiatide, also known as 99mTc-MAG3) is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical used in nuclear medicine for renal imaging. It is prepared from a kit containing the precursor betiatide, which is reconstituted with sodium pertechnetate Tc 99m to form the active technetium complex. Following intravenous administration, technetium Tc 99m mertiatide is rapidly cleared from the blood by the kidneys, primarily via active renal tubular secretion mediated by organic anion transporters (OAT1 and OAT3) and apical efflux transporters (MRP2 and MRP4). This rapid and specific renal clearance allows for the scintigraphic evaluation of renal function, split function, renal perfusion, and the diagnosis of congenital or acquired renal abnormalities, renal failure, urinary tract obstruction, and calculi in both adult and pediatric patients.
