Overview

MAX-002 is a rectal suppository formulation of mesalamine (5-aminosalicylic acid), developed for the treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative proctitis. Mesalamine is an anti-inflammatory agent that acts locally in the colon to inhibit cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways, thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The MAX-002 formulation was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, controlled Phase 3 clinical trial comparing its efficacy and safety to placebo and Canasa (another mesalamine suppository) over six weeks. The primary endpoint was improvement in disease activity after 6 weeks of treatment[1][2][6].
