Mesenchymal stem cell conditioned medium (MSC-CM) is a cell-free therapeutic product derived from the culture supernatant of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). It contains a complex mixture of paracrine factors, including growth factors, cytokines, chemokines, and extracellular vesicles (exosomes), which mediate the regenerative and immunomodulatory effects traditionally attributed to MSCs themselves. By utilizing the secretome rather than the cells, MSC-CM offers potential advantages in terms of safety (reduced risk of tumorigenicity or vascular occlusion), ease of storage, and standardization. It is being investigated for a wide range of conditions, including respiratory distress in lung diseases, chronic pain, heart disease, and inflammatory bowel disease, due to its ability to promote tissue repair and modulate inflammatory responses.
