Overview

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) secretome, often referred to as Secretome-MSCs in clinical trials, is a cell-free therapeutic product consisting of the complete set of bioactive factors secreted by MSCs, including cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles (exosomes and microvesicles). It is being developed as a safer and more easily standardized alternative to live MSC transplantation. The secretome mediates tissue repair and immunomodulation by suppressing inflammatory responses and reducing oxidative stress. Clinical research is currently evaluating its efficacy in treating severe COVID-19 to prevent cytokine storms and in managing rheumatoid arthritis. Preclinical evidence also suggests potential applications in treating opioid addiction by mitigating neuroinflammation and brain oxidative stress.
