Mesenchymal stem cells (Universidad del Desarrollo) is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy consisting of ex vivo expanded multipotent stromal cells derived from the bone marrow of healthy donors. Developed by the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile, this therapy is specifically being evaluated for the treatment of recently diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. The therapeutic approach involves a single intravenous infusion of these cells, which are intended to exert systemic immunomodulatory effects. The goal is to suppress the autoimmune-mediated destruction of pancreatic beta cells, thereby preserving residual insulin secretion (measured by C-peptide levels) and improving long-term glycemic control in patients.
