Overview

Mesenchymal trophic factors (MTF) derived from human umbilical cord tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSC) is an allogeneic biologic therapy being developed by Translational Biosciences for the treatment of poorly controlled asthma. This therapeutic approach utilizes the secretome—a complex mixture of paracrine factors, including cytokines and growth factors, secreted by the stem cells—rather than the cells themselves. Administered intranasally once per week, MTF is designed to induce immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects within the respiratory system to improve pulmonary function and quality of life. A Phase 1/2 safety and feasibility study has been conducted in Panama to evaluate its potential in patients with poorly controlled asthma.
