Mesoglycan is a natural glycosaminoglycan (GAG) preparation, a sulfated polysaccharide extract typically obtained from porcine intestinal mucosa, cow lung, or cow blood vessel (aorta). It is composed primarily of heparan sulfate, dermatan sulfate, and slow-moving heparin, with smaller, variable quantities of chondroitin sulfate. Mesoglycan is utilized for its multifaceted effects on the vascular system, including antithrombotic, profibrinolytic, anti-inflammatory, antiedema, and wound-healing properties. It is approved in many European countries for the treatment of various blood vessel homeostasis diseases and is also marketed as a dietary supplement.
