Overview

MET-CODCP 19 is a specialized oral nanoplatform consisting of metformin-bridged nanocochleates (MET-CO) optimized with dicetyl phosphate (DCP). This formulation was developed to repurpose metformin hydrochloride for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), addressing the drug's high aqueous solubility and poor oral permeability. The nanocochleates are structured as uniform, snail-shaped nano-rolls that provide a controlled biphasic release profile over 24 hours. Preclinical studies demonstrate that MET-CODCP 19 significantly enhances the oral bioavailability of metformin (approximately 5.5-fold relative to standard solution) and exhibits potent anticancer activity by downregulating anti-apoptotic and cancer stemness genes in HepG2 cells.
