Overview

Meta10-GPC3 is a metabolically armed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting Glypican-3 (GPC3), developed by Zhejiang University for the treatment of unresectable recurrent or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). GPC3 is a cell surface oncofetal proteoglycan that is highly expressed in approximately 70-75% of HCC cases but is largely absent in normal adult tissues, making it a highly specific target for immunotherapy. The "Meta10" designation refers to a metabolic engineering platform designed to enhance the fitness, persistence, and anti-tumor activity of CAR-T cells within the immunosuppressive and nutrient-depleted tumor microenvironment of solid tumors. By modifying the metabolic pathways of the T cells, the therapy aims to overcome common limitations of CAR-T cells in treating solid malignancies. It is currently being evaluated in an early Phase 1 open-label clinical trial to assess safety and preliminary efficacy.
