Overview

Metabolically armed BCMA CAR-T cells (specifically the Meta10-BCMA candidate) are autologous T cells engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), further modified to enhance their metabolic fitness. Developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC (Anhui Provincial Hospital), the Meta10 platform involves engineering CAR-T cells to co-express metabolic modulators—such as IL-10—that promote oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial biogenesis. This metabolic "arming" is designed to prevent T-cell exhaustion and improve persistence within the immunosuppressive microenvironment of plasma cell neoplasms. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, plasma cell leukemia, and AL amyloidosis.
