metacavir

Metacavir (also known as YPH-001) is an orally bioavailable carbocyclic nucleoside analogue being developed by Guangzhou Yipinhong Pharmaceutical (ApicHope Pharmaceutical) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It acts as a prodrug that is converted into its active triphosphate form, which subsequently inhibits HBV DNA polymerase/reverse transcriptase. By competing with natural substrates, metacavir causes termination of the viral DNA chain, thereby suppressing viral replication. The drug is formulated as enteric-coated capsules to optimize absorption and stability. It has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to determine its safety, antiviral efficacy, and optimal dosing range in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
