Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Metaclipse Therapeutics is developing a preclinical SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidate using its proprietary VaxRex™ platform. The VaxRex™ technology utilizes virus-like particles (VLPs) or non-living bacterial membrane vesicles to present viral antigens alongside membrane-anchored biological adjuvants. This design is intended to elicit potent humoral and cellular immunity, specifically targeting high-risk populations such as the elderly and immunocompromised individuals. The platform was originally licensed from Emory University and aims to enhance immune responses by combining viral antigens with specialized biological adjuvants. In June 2020, the company was awarded a $2.2 million SBIR Phase II contract from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to advance the candidate toward clinical trials.
